It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Instructional Leadership Programme (ILP) website. ILP is an Oide approved professional learning programme for teachers that focuses specifically on enhancing their pedagogical practice, and ultimately enhancing student learning outcomes. ILP is committed to nurturing excellence in teaching and learning in a collaborative approach. As a professional development programme, it is built on the principles of effective professional learning opportunities, including active learning, collaboration, a pedagogical focus grounded in research, provides support and an opportunity to reflection, and aligns with the modern Irish classroom.
The programme aims to:
- Encourage teachers to consciously modify their instructional actions to maximise student learning.
- Facilitate the conscious and deliberate utilisation of teacher actions – skills, tactics & strategies.
- Foster an awareness of how a teacher’s actions can impact on student learning – motivation, novelty, authenticity, accountability, and safety.
- Re/Acquaint teachers with the extent to which learning is affected by; diverse learning styles, multiple intelligences, ‘at risk environment’ etc.
- Enhance classroom management and support the development of effective student teacher relationships.
- Encourage & Support Individual and Collaborative Professional Reflection.
ILP is offered through the Education and Training Boards Ireland (ETBI), to educational partners across the sectors and facilitated by Dr Rebecca Saunders, Assistant Professor in Education, Mary Immaculate College, Thurles Campus.
The Programme is in place for post-primary and FE teachers since 2008. More recently, it has been made available to the primary sector, as an approved summer programme. Details of the programme and how it can be accessed are available on this website.
This website has been developed not just to provide information about the programme but also to provide support to our graduates. We invite you to explore the site and use whatever resources you deem appropriate for your classroom/school.
Should you have any queries about the programme please do contact us at [email protected]
